On Friday, me and my partner decided we wanted a bit of normality and some proper family time outside of the house so we took the day of work and took the girls to Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. I have to confess to being a little nervous the day before worrying about whether sensible social distancing measures would be in place.
I was very pleasantly surprised with how the entire park was managed. You have to pre-book tickets and are allocated a time slot to enter the park. Arrival all went really smoothly, the queues to enter are spaced well apart with plenty of hand sanitiser and marshals directing people. We only waited about ten minutes before we were into the park.
Everything was really well organised within the park as well. The walkways are either one way or wide enough that you can safely pass other families heading in the other direction. Everything has clear signs letting you know where you can go and which direction to walk. Unfortunately the playgrounds and indoor areas were still shut for obvious reasons but the cafes and food stalls were open which was an unexpected treat – especially when we found the hot donut stall! There’s also plenty of picnic benches all spread well apart which was handy.
We last visited in summer 2019 and were pleased to see some new exhibits had opened we were last there. The highlight continues to be the polar bears and we were lucky enough to see one go for a swim while we were heading round.
All in all, it was a fantastic day out for us and the kids. They had a fantastic time spotting all the animals and I had a fantastic time not staring at the same four walls for the day! It was great to feel some sense of normality returning to the UK and see everyone respecting social distancing, while having fun with their families!
